Remember when hockey was just… hockey? No pressure. No sideline nerves. Just friends, laughs, and the thrill of hitting the turf. That’s exactly what we’re trying to bring back.
We’re looking to enter Secondary Grade teams through our club (not adult club hockey) so teens can play with people their own age, against peers, in a safe and supportive environment.
Skills? Optional.
Experience? Optional.
Gear? We can work around it.
Barriers are just speed bumps here.
This isn’t about being the next Black Stick. It’s about having fun, being social, and rediscovering the love of the game.
We welcome all secondary-school-aged students (wāhine and tāne) who fit any of the following:
No school hockey team
No social hockey option at school
Home-schooled
Enrolled in any other government-approved learning environment
If we get enough interest, we’ll form a team and get playing.
Making history is kind of our thing.
(N.B: if you don't quite fit any of the above, get in touch anyways and let us know why you need this and we will see what we can do for you)
2. We’ll Reach Out:
Once we have enough interested students, we’ll confirm teams and provide details.
3. Gear & Kickoff Info:
We’ll help with any gear needs and share all the dates, times, and locations.
4. Play & Have Fun:
Join your peers, learn, laugh, and play hockey the way it should be.
Q: Do I need to have played hockey before?
A: Nope. Never touched a stick? Never scored a goal? Doesn’t matter. If you’re keen, you’re in.
Q: Do I need my own gear?
A: No. If you don’t have sticks or pads, we’ll help you get set up.
Q: Can I join if I’m home-schooled or at a non-traditional school?
A: Absolutely. Anyone in a government-approved learning environment is welcome.
Q: What ages are allowed?
A: Secondary-school-aged students only — roughly 12–18 years old.
Q: Is it safe?
A: Yes. All sessions are supervised, and our club prioritises a supportive, age-appropriate environment.
Q: Will I be pressured to play in adult-level club hockey?
A: No way. This is specifically secondary grade only. We want you to enjoy the game, not stress about it.
Q: Parents worried about safety?
A: Don’t worry — we’ve got it covered. Supervised, structured, safe. Helmets for brains encouraged, not just knees.
Yes, this is organised and supervised. Yes, it’s age-appropriate. Yes, fun is intentional. Skills and experience are optional. Your teen will be supported, safe, and encouraged to enjoy hockey in a way that suits them.
Don’t overthink it!
This is fun-first hockey for secondary students who want to play, laugh, and belong.
