COLT Junior

Thanks for taking the time to find out more about COLT Juniors – a triathlon club (swim, bike and run) where children have fun, make friends and are inspired to be the best they can be.

We’re an inclusive club for 8-18 year olds, who all want to take part in multi-sports – including triathlon, duathlon, modern pentathlon, biathlon and other variants of swim, bike and/or run. From competing in local events through to representing Great Britain in international competitions, we support all young athletes, whatever their ambition. We work with other local single sports clubs, such as Carnforth Otters for swimming and Salt Ayre Cog Set for cycling, and encourage our members to train independently across the three disciplines.

So whether you want to join us for fun to try something new, complete your first multi-sport event or to improve your performance, we’re a friendly club where you can achieve your goals. We hold British Triathlon Trimark Club Bronze accreditation and we are affiliated with Triathlon England.

The club has a Facebook page, which is regularly updated and which you are welcome to join and post in: COLT Juniors Facebook.

If you’d like to join, please register on SportMember. SportMember is available as an app and a website. It is the main way the club keeps in touch with parents/carers and manages events. Membership is just £10 per annum per child, and includes:

  • The ability to enter races as a junior COLT – with plenty of support usually on offer to those wearing our kit.
  • Find out first about our own Triathlon and Duathlon races, usually held at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre.
  • Free loan of spare COLT Juniors tri suits and road bikes (subject to availability – please ask for more details).
  • Occasional club training sessions in transition skills (moving from swim to bike, and from bike to run, as quickly as possible!). We are also aiming to put on some run and possibly bike specific training in 2026, to complement the single sports training that many of our members get with their other clubs.
  • Social activities, such as family fun days and family bike rides, where members come together socially.

If you have any questions or want to get in touch, please post on Facebook or email [email protected]

Club Welfare Information

At COLT Juniors we want everyone to train in a fun, happy and safe environment. We abide by British Triathlon’s Safeguarding and Protecting Children Policy and its Equality and Diversity Policy.

We also have a number of documents that we ask members to read through and acknowledge. We ask for medical information to be kept up to date and consent/non-consent given for photography and videoing of members. More details of these are given below.

If you have any queries or concerns at all then you can contact the club Welfare Officer, Kath Pollard, by email on [email protected].

If you believe the concern to be urgent or that a child is in danger and the Club Welfare Officer is not available please contact:

British Triathlon Lead Safeguarding Officer (LSO): [email protected] or on 07793 647578.

Or contact the Police or another statutory agency.

Codes of Conduct

Code of Conduct for Junior Members: we expect exceptional behaviour and conduct from all members at all times. All members must read and acknowledge the junior’s code of conduct when they join.

We also have a Code of Conduct for Parents and Carers. We expect our members to enjoy training and competing and the adults who support the young athletes are expected to help us in fulfilling this role. Parents of new members must read and acknowledge the code of conduct for parents and carers when their child joins.

The coaches also have a Code of Conduct and Ethics for Coaches that they abide by. All our junior coaches are DBS checked through British Triathlon and hold relevant safeguarding certificates.

Finally, all our club officers and volunteers abide by British Triathlon’s Code of Ethics. We expect all parents/carers to help us during training when requested and we particularly require volunteers at the events we run for the Triathlon England Northwest Triathlon Series. Therefore, all parents/carers should also be familiar with this document. Thank you.

Photography

We often post about our successes on our website and closed Facebook page and we also sometimes have articles published in local newspapers – we like to include photographs/video in our posts/articles. We will ask for your consent for taking photographs/videos at events and training when you join which you can remove at anytime by contacting the Junior Lead.

Medical form

When you joined COLT Juniors you will have been asked about any medical information we should know about your child. If at any point this medical information changes please inform us asap.
