PARTICIPATION
To be entered for the South West Junior Race Series standings, athletes must be a current British Triathlon Home Nation member and have South West Region on their membership profile. To attain points for your club you must be registered, through your membership profile, to a club within the South West. There is no need to register for the series, simply enter the races. If you are not a Home Nation member at the time of the race you will not be awarded points and points cannot be awarded retrospectively.
SOUTH WEST ANNUAL AWARDS
Date to be announced in November 2026.
CLASSIFICATION
There are five age classifications based on year of birth. Age for each group are as of 31st December 2026:
RESULTS
Overall positions in 2026 will be based on points, the winning athlete in each category will be awarded 1000 points, points are then rewarded based on the time difference behind the winning time, not just positions. See FAQ below for further details.
While it would be fantastic for athletes to take part in all nine events, we encourage parents, coaches and athletes to make sensible decisions around overall racing load, particularly for young competitors. We also recognise the financial and time commitments involved in race entries and travel.
Please note that it is not necessary to compete in every race in the series — an athlete’s best four results will count towards the overall standings.
This may be subject to change if, for whatever reason, an event is cancelled. In this case an event may be added or the number of events revised.
COMMUNICATION
Please get in touch with the South West Junior Series Coordinator so they can answer any queries. You should also make contact if you have any questions regarding the Inter-Regional Championship.
CONDUCT
We expect all parents and athletes to abide by the British Triathlon Codes of Conduct.

The South West Junior Race Series is governed by the South West Triathlon Regional Committee. All races are sanctioned by British Triathlon and therefore competitors and spectators must abide by the rules of the British Triathlon.
Points are calculated based on the winning time with the winner receiving 1000 points. Subsequent results are calculated by dividing the winning time by the recorded time for all other athletes and multiplying the result by 1000 (eg winner in 18mins gets 1000pts, 2nd place finishes in 18 minutes 36. 18 mins divided by 18mins 36 * 1000 = 968 and therefore the 2nd place finisher would would receive 968 points for that race). In the event of a tie, a ‘head to head’ analysis will be conducted to determine the winner.
If a race is cancelled or is deemed not to have met the level of quality that we require from a race then the committee have the right to amend the number of points scored by the winner and the number of qualifying races to count in the series.
Each year a squad of 4 male and 4 female from Tristar 2 & Tristar 3 are selected to represent South West in the Inter Regional Championships. This selection is based on their performances in the Junior Race Series until the end of June.
Full details of the IRC process, together with the date and venue of the IRC's themselves can be found on the IRC selection page.
