Practical info for new players

πŸ‰ New Player – Everything You Need to Know

Welcome to Aarhus Rugby Klub! πŸŽ‰

Whether you're completely new to rugby or already an experienced player, this page contains the practical information you need to get started with the team.

The first trainings are free and everyone is welcome to simply come by at training times (Men: Tuesdays & Thursdays 18:30-20:30, Women: Tuesdays and Thursdays 17:30-19:30, Youth: Tuesdays 17:30-19:00)

Don't worry if everything looks like a lot at first β€” the most important thing is simply to come to training and get involved. The rest can be sorted out along the way.

πŸ‰ Your first steps

There are a few administrative things you need to take care of when joining the team.

1. Create your Holdsport account

Holdsport is the platform we use to manage the team, training sessions, matches and player administration.

πŸ‘‰ Join ARK Senior Men on Holdsport

If you don't already have a Holdsport account, create one through the link above and join ARK Senior Men.

Once your account is created, make sure your personal information is filled in correctly β€” especially your date of birth and gender. This information is important for your Rugby Danmark registration and licence.

It should only take around 3 minutes.

You can also find the official Rugby Danmark explanation here:

2. Complete Rugby Ready πŸ§ πŸ‰

Before you can get a player licence, you need to complete the World Rugby Rugby Ready course.

Don't worry β€” it is not a difficult exam. It is a short quiz covering the basics of rugby, player safety and injury prevention.

Once you have completed it, you receive a certificate/diploma.

πŸ‘‰ Complete the Rugby Ready test

Once completed:

  1. Download/save your Rugby Ready certificate.
  2. Upload it to your personal profile on Holdsport.
  3. Make sure the other required personal information is completed.

Rugby Danmark currently also requires players to confirm that they have valid accident insurance, accept the Anti-Doping regulations and agree to the Rugby Danmark photo policy before a licence can be applied for.

⭐ The important part

You do NOT need a player licence just to come to training.

You can join us, train and get to know the team while sorting out the administration.

However, you need a licence before playing official matches.

So don't let the paperwork stop you from coming to training!

3. Under 18? πŸ‘¦πŸ‘§

Players under 18 need an additional dispensation form completed by the coach and their parents. The dispensation is provided by Rugby Danmark or by the team responsible.

If you're under 18 and are unsure what you need to do, just ask one of the coaches.

πŸ“… Training

Regular training is:

Tuesday & Thursday
πŸ•‘ 18:30–20:30
πŸ“ Aarhus Rugby Klub (VΓ₯rkjΓ¦rvej 75, Viby)

Training will take place at the club until the end of the season.

You don't need to be fit, experienced or know all the rules before joining. Rugby is a sport where you learn by doing, and there will be players and coaches around to help you.

Just show up, introduce yourself and join the session!

🦷 Mouthguard – Required!

A mouthguard is required when playing rugby matches.

If you don't have one yet, you can buy one through the club, depending on the stock we have available.

You can also use your own mouthguard.

πŸ‘• What should I bring to training?

For your first training sessions, you don't need much:

  • πŸ‘• Sports clothes
  • πŸ‘Ÿ Rugby/football boots or suitable sports shoes
  • πŸ’§ Water bottle
  • 🦷 Mouthguard (required for contact only)
  • πŸ§₯ Clothes appropriate for the weather

🀝 Team Communication

We use Holdsport for official team activities, training sessions and matches.

We also have a team chat where we share the less formal stuff: training updates, lifts to away games, social events, questions, memes and everything in between.

πŸ’¬ Join the team chat

Ask any of the players at training and they will invite you in the chat to be sure you get the latest updates.

🧹 Team Duties & Responsibilities

Rugby clubs run because everyone contributes.

As a player, you'll occasionally be asked to help with things around the team and club.

This can include:

  • Setting up or packing down equipment
  • Helping prepare the pitch
  • Cleaning/organising after training
  • Helping with club events
  • Match-day tasks
  • Helping with food/drinks after games
  • Other small jobs that keep the club running

We'll explain the different responsibilities as you get involved. Details are pinned in the changing room.

πŸ‰ Match Day

Before the match

  • Check the match information in Holdsport.
  • Confirm your availability.
  • Arrive at the time communicated by the coaches.
  • Bring your rugby kit, boots and mouthguard.
  • Make sure you know where the match is.
  • If you need a lift, ask in the team chat early.

After the match

Stick around and support the team.

Depending on the match and club arrangements, there may be food/drinks or other social activities afterwards.

πŸ’° Club Fees

Club membership fees are paid twice per year.

You will receive the relevant information about payment through the club/Holdsport.

Important: The club membership fee and the Rugby Danmark player licence are separate things.
