A Monthly Update from chairman Dan Willis: June

Tue, 17 Jun 2025, 23:34

At AFC Mackworth we believe that communication with our community is vital so we have decided to launch our brand-new feature, a monthly chairman update that will be released on the first of every month. On the back of our historic awards night at Pride Park Stadium, it felt important to bring you the first edition now.

As another fantastic season comes to a close, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our players, parents, coaches, and volunteers. It’s been another successful year for AFC Mackworth, with the club continuing to grow and welcome more players than ever before.

Next season marks a major milestone – our 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, AFC Mackworth has grown beyond anything we could have imagined. From a small grassroots setup to one of the leading community clubs in the area, we've provided footballing opportunities to hundreds of local children and families.

But for us it’s not just about football – we’ve also proudly supported local charities, cooked and delivered Christmas meals to those in need, and developed one of the best grassroots facilities in the city.

As we enter this special anniversary season, our mission remains the same: to give back to the community – only bigger and better than before. To do this, we need the continued support of our local businesses, volunteers and families more than ever.

We’re still on the lookout for new coaches across various age groups to help meet growing demand. If you’re interested in getting involved, please speak to your team’s manager or contact our Club Welfare Officer at [email protected].

This season, we also held our first-ever end-of-season awards at Pride Park, which was a huge success. Events like this help celebrate our players in style, but we’d love to be able to make them free to attend in the future. That will only be possible with the help of more sponsors, so if you or someone you know might be interested in supporting the club, please reach out.

As the club continues to grow, we always need more hands – whether it’s helping with admin, organising events, or just pitching in where needed. If you’d like to be part of our journey, join our WhatsApp community or email us at [email protected].

Thank you once again for being part of the AFC Mackworth family. Here’s to 10 years of progress – and to an even brighter future ahead.
